#GoogleDown: Gmail & Google Drive today crashed for some hours for users around the world

Thousands of Google users were today left unable to connect properly to Gmail and Google Drive following an international outage.

It affected people around the world but there was a large concentration of issues in Europe and Australia. Outage tracker site DownDetector picked up problems at 7.24am BST and Google did not report the issue as fixed until 12.10 BST. Of all the reported problems, the majority (61 per cent) were with attaching items to an email. Others were struggling to log in (22 per cent) and to receive messages (15 per cent). 
For Google Drive, the primary issue was with file syncing, representing 68 per cent of all reported problems. 
The root cause of the issues remains unknown.
