Union Bank lays claims to the money found in the Ikoyi flat recovered by EFCC

Union Bank lays claims to the money found in the Ikoyi flat recovered by EFCC
Remember the unclaimed large sums of money that was found at Flat 7B in Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, on June 6, ($43,449,947, N23, 218,000 and £27,800)? Well, Union Bank of Nigeria Plc is now claiming ownership of the funds.

In its claim application that is still pending in court, the bank has asked the Federal High Court in
Lagos to vacate an interim order that has forfeited the flat to the Federal Government.

The court had on November 9, ordered the flat’s temporary forfeiture to the Federal Government.

Justice Saliu Saidu ruled that it would be permanently forfeited if no one turned up to justify its ownership within 14 days. An ultimatum which has already expired.

Union Bank’s lawyer Chief Ajibola Aribisala (SAN) Thursday, said he filed an application seeking to vacate the interim forfeiture order on behalf of the bank.

In a supporting affidavit, the bank said the flat was part of 16, Osborne Road, Ikoyi, which belongs to Alhaji Ahmadu Adamu Muazu. Adding that the property was covered by a certificate of occupancy dated September 27, 2009 and registered as 97/97/2009 in the Lands Registry Office, Alausa.

According to the bank, Muazu mortgaged the property to it by virtue of a Tripartite Deed of Legal Mortgage dated November 1, 2011.

Union Bank said the property was a security for a loan granted to Tripple A Properties & Investment Ltd.

The bank claimed that the property’s original titled deed had been vested in it (the bank), adding that the loan was yet to be liquidated despite its tenor expiring.

The bank claimed that it sold the property to Chobe Ventures Ltd to liquidate the loan.

EFCC, in its counter affidavit, argued that the bank lacked the locus standi to challenge the forfeiture.

While arguing the application for the flat’s forfeiture, EFCC’s lawyer said Mrs Oke made cash payment of $1,658,000 in tranches of $700,000, $650,000 and $353,700, for the flat’s purchase between August 25 and September 3, 2015.

In a supporting affidavit deposed to by an investigating officer, Mr Musa Giwa, the agency said Mrs Oke gave the cash to a bureau de change operator, Alhaji Shehu Usman Anka, to pay for the flat.
“The funds used to acquire the property sought to be forfeited in the name of Chobe Ventures belong to the Federal Government of Nigeria but was fraudulently converted to the use of Chobe Ventures. It is in the interest of justice to grant this application,” the EFCC said.
EFCC said when it recovered the huge cash from the flat, it also recovered several documents that indicated that the flat belonged to Chobe Ventures. He said some of the evidence included invoices and cash receipts issued to the company.

It claimed to have written the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) for the particulars of Chobe Ventures’ directors, following which the CAC affirmed that the directors of Chobe Ventures were Mrs Folade Oke and Mr Ayodele Oke Jr.

Justice Saidu adjourned till January 12 for the hearing of Union Bank’s application as an interested party.

Mother Confesses To Killing Five Babies

A French mother was charged Thursday with murdering five of her babies in a case solved by DNA evidence obtained years later after a brawl between neighbours.
Fourteen years after the bodies of four of the babies were found in a forest, Sylvie H, aged 53, has admitted to murdering five children, the public prosecutor in the eastern city of Mulhouse told a press conference.
The killings are believed to have taken place from 1993-1995 and 2003-2005. The body of a fifth baby was found at the suspect's home.
The mother, who has three other children aged 18, 27 and 32, revealed this week that she gave birth alone at home each time, without the father's knowledge.

Investigators had for years puzzled over who was behind the infants' deaths.
An autopsy showed at least two were strangled with cords.
But with no DNA evidence linking the babies to a parent, the case went cold until September 2016 when Sylvie H, her partner and her eldest son were involved in a fight with their neighbours.
Investigators looking into the dispute took DNA samples from the mother -- and to their surprise realised they had a match with the samples taken from the babies in 2003.
When officers arrived to arrest the woman at her home in a Mulhouse suburb on Tuesday "she understood immediately why they had come for her" and confessed to the killings, prosecutor Dominique Alzeari said.
The father of the children, who appeared "absolutely unaware" of the killings, was "very upset", Alzeari added.
The woman's motives remain unclear. She faces life imprisonment if convicted.

Robert Mugabe To Relocate To Rural Home

Zimbabwe's ousted president Robert Mugabe is 'jovial' and looking forward to spending his retirement farming, it has been revealed.

The hardline politician's wife Grace is now concentrating on plans to build a university in his honour, his nephew Leo Mugabe said.

Zimbabwe announced plans in August to build the $1-billion post-graduate university in Mazowe, 20 miles outside Harare.

The plan drew fierce criticism as Mugabe is accused of brutal repression and bringing the country to economic ruin.

Leo said today: 'He is actually looking forward to his new life - farming and staying at the rural home. He has taken it well.'

PHOTOS: IDENTIFIED: Bahtiyar Duysak, the Twitter employee who deactivated Trump’s account

The then-Twitter employee who temporarily shut down President Donald Trump’s account during his last day on the job has been identified as Bahtiyar Duysak, a contract employee based in the San Francisco area.
Duysak said he never thought he would actually be able to disable Trump’s account, calling it a “mistake.” He maintains that he did not “go to any site I was not supposed to go to” and “didn’t break any rules.” Trump’s account was deactivated for around 11 minutes earlier this month, and Twitter said at the time that a “customer service employee” was able to perform the action. Twitter later said it “implemented safeguards to prevent this from happening again.”

Jay Z finally admits to cheating on Beyonce, but who is Becky???

Rapper Jay Z was the target of plenty of abuse from his fans and those loyal to Beyonce, when his wife dropped her latest album Lemonade.
In it, she alluded to the feelings she felt when she found out her husband had cheated on her and how she and they, as a couple, moved on. The woman whom he was alleged to have got with has never been named, except for Mrs Cater-Knowles calling her 'Becky with the good hair'. When Jay Z released his latest album 4:44, he pretty much admitted to being unfaithful; however, it was still not 100 percent confirmed. He never told anyone, 'Yes I cheated'.
But in an interview with the New York Times, he opens up about that part of his marriage to one of the most successful artists of all time. He was asked about his time in therapy, what was said, how he reacted and how he changed from the experience. Jay says he felt he could finally feel 'connected' again following the meetings. The 47-year-old said: "You have to survive. So, you go into survival mode, and when you go into survival mode what happen? You shut down all emotions. So even with women, you gonna shut down emotionally, so you can't connect. "In my case, like it's, it's deep. And then all the things happen from there: infidelity." The legendary hip-hop artist adds: "It's hard to hear songs back. It's hard to perform...songs, but, um, I feel it's the most important work that I've done and I'm very proud of it and the effect that it's having on people."
Jay Z and Beyonce

Rumours had circulated about the alleged cheating for years, but they particularly came to a head during what should have been a very private moment. In an elevator in 2014, Solange Knowles attacked Jay Z, while sister Beyonce stood silent. Carter addressed the moment three years later with the hosts of the Rap Radar Podcast, telling them: "We had one disagreement ever. Before and after, we've been cool. She's like my sister. I will protect her. That's my sister, not my sister-in-law. My sister. Period." That wasn't really addressing what happened and merely acknowledging its existence. But he alluded to the moment again in his song 'Kill Jay Z' off 4:44 when he rapped: "
You egged Solange on/ Knowin' all along, all you had to say you was wrong/You almost went Eric Benét/Let the baddest girl in the world get away/I don't even know what else to say/ N---a, never go Eric Benét." Despite the very public attention their relationship has received, it appears following both Jay Z and Beyonce's albums, they've worked through their issues. Mr Carter said: "The hardest thing is seeing pain on someone's face that you caused, and then have to deal with yourself. "But the best place in the hurricane is in the middle of it. "The best place is right in the middle of the pain. And that's where we were sitting. And it was uncomfortable. And we had a lot of conversations."
