The 365 Days actor, Michele Morrone woke up on the morning of June 7 and – as most of us do – reached for his phone to go through his social media.

“When I went to sleep I had no more than 700,000 followers [on Instagram],” he tells The National. “I woke up and I had more than 2.2 million followers. I was like, ‘Wow, what’s happening? What’s going to happen?’” That was the day Netflix released the Polish drama on its streaming platform, throwing the Italian actor into the spotlight. Just over a month later and the R-rated 365 Days has already become one of Netflix's most streamed films of the year.

“I expected the movie to become a hit in Poland and the UK because it was being released in cinemas there,” says Morrone, 29.
He never thought the film was going to become such an international sensation, however. The day after the film was released on Netflix, Morrone left his home in Rome to go and buy some bread. “People were running after me,” he says, recalling the crowd flocking around him, wanting to take pictures. It was a stark contrast to the life the Italian actor had been leading. Only two years ago, he was broke, recently divorced and depressed, working as a gardener in a small Italian village in the north of the country.

“The film changed a lot of things. I was getting more attention and there were also a lot of business requests,” Morrone says. “But in many ways I’m the same person I was 10 years ago.” Morrone is settling into fame quite easily. Since his arrival in Dubai on Sunday, July 19, the Italian star has been spotted lounging in Dubai's Palazzo Versace and cruising around the city in a red Ferrari. But Morrone is actually in town on business.

Morrone was back home in Italy when the pandemic took hold. He says he spent more than two months isolating in his home in Rome. The country was one of the worst affected, with more than 35,000 deaths. The Italian star has a number of other business ventures in the pipeline: he tells us he is working on a perfume line, as well as a swimsuit and kimono line for women. He is also working on a follow-up to Dark Room, an album he released on Valentine’s Day. Four of the album’s songs were featured in 365 Days, and have collectively garnered more than 100 million plays across streaming platforms. The inclusion of his music in the film, he says, also happened by chance.

“One night I was having a dinner with the director [Barbara Bialowas] and she asked me what else I wanted to do besides acting. I told her I liked making music and showed her a recording I had done on my phone. She said, ‘Wow, this is going to be in the movie’ and that’s how it started.”

20 people test positive for coronavirus after wedding reception in Abu Dhabi

More than 20 people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Abu Dhabi after attending a wedding reception, Emarat Al Youm reported on Saturday.

According to the Abu Dhabi Public Health Center, the infected persons failed to adhere to social distancing while attending the reception, which resulted in them contracting the virus. The centre warned the public against complacency in taking precautionary measures, calling on everyone to strictly adhere to preventive measures to maintain the safety of all.
In a video published on its social media platforms, the centre shared the story of the family that is strictly committing to precautionary measures and none of its members leaves the house unless necessary. One of the family members had visited his relatives to offer condolences but he contracted the virus from the deceased’s brother who was infected but showing no symptoms. Some days later, the family held a ceremony to celebrate the engagement of their daughter but failed to adhere to social distancing during the event.
Two weeks later, members of the family and their neighbours started to develop COVID-19 symptoms.

From August 1, travellers from Nigeria & 28 other countries will be tested twice for COVID-19 before flying to Dubai

Starting August 1, travellers from 29 countries will have to be tested twice if they wish to fly to Dubai.

Apart from a negative COVID-19 test, with a 96-hour validity, that's required for them to board the flight, these passengers will also be required to undergo a COVID-19 PCR test when they land at Dubai International.
India, Pakistan, Philippines and the US are among the countries listed on the Emirates Airline website.
It adds that anyone who takes the test at DXB must self-isolate until they receive their results. 
That's not all. Travellers must have health insurance that covers COVID-19 treatment, and download the Covid19 - DXB Smart App if they land in Dubai, or Al Hosn app if they land at other UAE airports.
Meanwhile, children under the age of 12 and those with moderate to severe disabilities are exempt from taking the PCR tests.
According to the latest travel directive, all those flying into Dubai, including Emiratis, residents and tourists, from August 1 will be required to have a certificate to prove they are COVID-19 free before they board their flight.

It is believed that the reason behind that meeting at the Waldorf hotel was to discuss prison reforms, a project dear to Kim's heart. This photo is coming a few days after West had revealed in a Twitter rant that he has been trying to divorce his wife after she met Mill at the Waldorf hotel.

Emirates becomes the world’s first airline to provide free, global cover to customers for COVID-19 medical expenses & quarantine costs

Emirates will pay medical bills for travellers who become symptomatic with coronavirus while at their destination, at least until 31 October 2020.

If a passenger is diagnosed with Covid-19 while they are away from home, the Dubai-based airline says it will cover medical and repatriation expenses of up to €150,000 (£137,000). In addition, it will pay quarantine costs of €100 (£91) per day to a maximum of two weeks, for the traveller and a companion. The carrier will also contribute up to €1,500 (£1,370) towards the cost of a funeral. Coronavirus testing fees are not included.
Emirates says: “If you have tested positive for Covid-19 while you are abroad, you will benefit from repatriation assistance, assistance with medical and hospital costs and assistance with quarantine accommodation costs in an approved designated facility.”
This cover is provided free by the airline for all passengers in all classes, and does not require any registration or form-filling.
The airline’s chief executive, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, said: “We know people are yearning to fly as borders around the world gradually re-open, but they are seeking flexibility and assurances should something unforeseen happen during their travel.“ “It is an investment on our part, but we are putting our customers first, and we believe they will welcome this initiative.”
But the Emirates guarantee does not apply if “your travel against your home country’s government advice or against local authority advice at your trip destination”.
As the Foreign Office advises against travel to Dubai itself, British passengers will be ineligible for cover in the UAE.
Separately, Emirates is resuming flights to the Seychelles from 1 August, coinciding with the country's re-opening to international tourists, and increasing flights to the Maldives from 4 August from five to six weekly, “to meet customer demand”.

NAF says combat pilot Tolulope Arotile was buried without autopsy

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile was buried without an official autopsy because it was unnecessary.

Arotile was winged as NAF's first ever female combat helicopter pilot on October 15, 2019, after completing her flying training in South Africa. However, she died from head injuries sustained from a road traffic accident at NAF Base, Kaduna on July 14, 2020. According to the official account, three of her former classmates, all civilians, spotted her walking on the base and accidentally knocked her down while trying to get her attention. NAF ruled that her death was caused by blunt force trauma to the head, and significant bleeding resulting from being struck by the vehicle.

The true nature of her death has been debated in public with some suggesting NAF's official account is not convincing. Even though NAF has pushed back strongly against insinuations of a sinister cover up, its spokesperson, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, says no post-mortem examination was done on the deceased officer. While speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Friday, July 24, Daramola said an autopsy was unnecessary because there was no doubt as to the cause and manner of Arotile's death. He said there were witnesses on the scene of the accident, and it was clear that the pilot died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head caused by the vehicle hitting her from the rear. He said the deceased's father, Akintunde Arotile, also expressed confidence in the investigations of the Force and sought closure on the matter. He said, "Autopsy was not done because it was not requested.

The cause of death was already known based on investigation, and how she was taken to the hospital and the confirmation was made. "There was no doubt in that regard and there was no request from the family for that specifically." The three involved in the accident have been identified as Nehemiah Adejoh, who drove the car, Igbekele Folorunsho, and Festus Gbayegun. Adejoh, it has been revealed, was driving without a licence at the time of the accident. Daramola said the case will be handed over to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) later on Friday. Arotile flew several combat missions under Operation Gama Aiki in Minna, Niger State.

She was buried with full military honours in a ceremony which took place at the National Military Cemetery in the capital city on Thursday, July 23.

Michele Morrone reveals in an interview in Dubai he was a gardener before his movie 365 Days

Italian actor and singer Michele Morrone is in Dubai.

Morrone stars in Netflix’s adult drama ‘365 Days’, where he plays Don Massimo, the head of the Sicilian mafia who abducts a Polish woman and gives her a year to fall in love with him.
Flying to Dubai from Rome, he spoke to Gulf News at the Palazzo Versace on July 23, during a visit to promote a new locally based platform called HalaHi.

Tell us about your partnership with HalaHi, and why you wanted to be part of it?

The concept of HalaHi is that you are doing something good for people who love you. Fans that would like to receive a personalised video from their idol can just go and book the video, with their name and everything. At the beginning, I thought, I don’t like people to [have to] pay for a video. I don’t want to make business with this. Because I think that an artist should be kind and just send videos for free. But then I thought that I could take this love and put [it into] something else … which is charity, because part of the money that I personally make — I don’t know [about] the other artists — will go to charity.

What kind of charities are important to you, personally?

The first one that I love is, how do I say in English? Orfanotrofi. All the kids, they don’t have families, for example, they are in this kind of house — an orphanage. In Italian, we say orfanotrofi. I’d like to put my attention especially on them ... Because I’m a dad, and I know what does it mean not to have that, because I grew up without a dad.

I read something where you spoke about going from farming in a remote village to [the success of ‘365 Days’]. How much has this film changed your life and in what ways?

From one to 10? One thousand, I guess. Today is July 23, and exactly one year ago, I used to work up in the north in Italy as a gardener. My life completely changed in one year, just like that. I stopped acting for personal problems for two years. After my divorce from my wife, I’ve got so many personal problems, and I decided that the way of the art wasn’t my way so I just stopped it.

I started getting small jobs. I worked as a waiter, I used to work in a company that used to build parquet (flooring), but I got fired because I wasn’t very good at it [laughs]. But I was very good with trees and stuff, because it was easy just to cut this to make a heart. Then I started working in this company, up in the north of Italy, in the place called Durazzano. I worked there for six months and a half, seven months, until I got an offer from Netflix.

What happened after that?

Something incredible happened, because my agent called me one day and he’s like, ‘Hey, there’s this offer from this movie called ‘365’, it’s a Polish production.’ I’m like, ‘No, please, I am over with acting, with music, with everything.’

In the night, I got a call from Poland, and it was the director. [He said], ‘Hi, I’m the director of the movie ‘365 Days’. Listen, I don’t know you, but I need you.’

How do you need me? You don’t even know me. ‘I like your physical appearance. You know, this movie, it’s gonna be big.’ Everyone can call you [and] say, ‘This movie is gonna be big.’ He’s like, ‘Listen, I made you that flight ticket. If you want to take the flight tomorrow morning, you come, otherwise, thank you very much for everything.’

The next day, I decided not to go [to work]. I called my boss, where I was working inside the park to take care of the grass. I’m like, ‘Hey, listen today. I don’t really feel good, my stomach [hurts]. I’m not coming to work.’ [He said], ‘Okay, okay, I will call to replace you.’

I [packed] just a little bag, it was one underwear and a pair of socks inside. I just flew to Poland, and when I got there, there was a contract of three years to play the main character of this movie. When I signed it, they quickly sent me the script and I start building up the psychology of Massimo. I’m like, ‘I don’t think I’m gonna go back to the park anymore.’ I was feeling guilty because I didn’t finish my work [laughs], but I had to study the script.

Your music is in the film, too. Was music your first love, or was it acting?

I decided to become an actor around 11, 12 years old, so that was my first love. I always had the passion for music and singing, but it was always a hobby. While we were shooting, I was at the dinner with the director, and he’s like, ‘What do you like to do besides acting?’ I’m like, ‘I like to write songs.’ I made him listen to one of my songs, and he totally fell in love. And he’s like, ‘Hey, Mickey, this is gonna be inside the movie.’ So I was the main character of ‘365 Days’, and I did all the soundtrack for the movie, as well.

How do you feel about the reaction to the film? Whether it’s good or bad, how do you personally feel?

I mean, I feel good because I did something interesting. I did something that people like and it’s a nice feeling, a really nice feeling. On my Instagram, for example, I still didn’t get one bad message. [At time of writing, Morrone has 9.1 million followers.] Yesterday, I got a notification from Forbes that ‘365 Days’ is the most viewed movie on Netflix, the most downloaded movie in the history of Netflix. I feel good about it. There’s nothing negative about it.

Looking forward, will you be doing more English language films, now that you have also a global audience?

I’m gonna only do more English films. I’m collaborating with Hollywood, with Spain. I’m gonna have to start the second part of ‘365 Days’, as well. We still don’t know when, but for sure we’re gonna make it, because of this problem with COVID. I have many projects, not in my language. I have a Spanish project, so I have to learn Spanish.

We heard that you have a perfume line coming up.

Yeah, I’m here in Dubai for two reasons. One of the reason is HalaHi; I’m part of this amazing family with these amazing guys. The second is because I’m making my own perfume … There’s nobody in the world that knows about perfume as [much as an] Arab country. The concept of the perfume here is not just take a perfume, spray and go — perfumes are more like something about culture, about philosophy. If I want to do something, I want to do something perfect. And this country is the perfect country to make this kind of business.

Can you speak any Arabic?

Akeed. Ana bahki Arabi shway, mesh kteer, inno bas... [Of course. I speak Arabic a bit, not too much, though.]

Have you been to the Middle East before?

Mesh honeh, Lebanon, erefti keef? [Not here, but Lebanon, you know what I mean?]

What’s your favourite Arabic meal?

I love the Arabic food. But my favourite one is the bread with hummus that you just grab and put it in your mouth. And you eat it and you swallow it down and you can feel it, you know? Yeah, totally hummus. I mean, it’s the most simple thing, but it’s the most good thing. I like many things. I like kafta, I like tabouleh, fattoush… kello, jaj. [All of it, including chicken.]

People are just getting to know you. What are the characteristics that you would describe yourself with, as a person?

I’m a very, very loyal man. To me, loyalty is something more important than business, than money, than everything. I exactly know what I want for my life. I exactly know what is my goal. And I exactly know what I can do and what I cannot do. I mean, loyalty is something sexy, don’t you think?

After this film, can you walk down the street without being recognised? Or has life changed in that way?

[Looks at his team] I can go down on the street just with James and my guards, of course, the other ones. [Laughs] No, I cannot.

Do you like that?

I mean, I accept that it’s part of the game. I made a movie that is worldwide. Every country I go, like America, Spain, I’m getting recognised, Every time I arrive to an airport, there’s a lot of fans. And it makes my heart so full of love. A Nigerian mother and her quadruplets remain in Dubai because of coronavirus travel restrictions that have prevented them from traveling home, her husband told CNN.

Tijani Abdulkareem, 32, said his wife, Suliyah, 29, gave birth to the babies -- two boys and two girls -- on July 1.
The couple, who live in Dubai, began making plans to relocate his wife to Nigeria to give birth when they found she was having quadruplets in January. They share a hostel accommodation with others, and it would have been difficult to rent a bigger place with their combined income, according to Abdulkareem, who works as a cook at a restaurant in the city. But the government banned all commercial international flights when the pandemic struck in Nigeria in March, shortly after it recorded its first case.

Only diplomatic and essential flights are currently permitted into Nigeria's airspace and Abdulkareem says the travel restrictions, had frustrated their plans. Although repatriation flights to Nigeria from Dubai are taking place, they are few and far between. Abdulkareem said the couple hoped that the travel restrictions would ease ahead of her planned departure to Nigeria in May, a few months before her August delivery date. "We thought the travel situation would improve ... but the lockdown made it difficult to get flights," he said. While they were still making arrangements for her travel to Nigeria, Abdulkareem said his wife went into premature labor and had the babies via an emergency C-section at the Latifah Women and Children hospital in Dubai.

The babies' early arrival has also unsettled the couple's finances. Abdulkareem said his wife stopped work as a hospital cleaner some months ago and their meager income was not enough to get health insurance. The family has incurred thousands of dollars in medical debt since the babies were born and the bill is mounting as doctors say the quadruplets may remain for another six weeks at the hospital before they can go home, Abdulkareem said. The couple owe around $120,000 and are incurring daily charges of $5000 to keep the babies in separate incubators. The father told CNN they have been relying on the goodwill of the hospital and the generosity of the Nigerian community in Dubai. "The hospital has really helped us. They discharged my wife and are doing all they can to ensure that the babies are doing well. The Nigerian community has also been like a family to us," Abdulkareem said.

The community, with contributions from some UAE residents and other nationals who read the news on local media, have been able to raise (AED) 30,000 (around $8000) to pay part of the family medical bills, Abdul-Hakeem Anifowoshe, a member of the diaspora community in Dubai told CNN. They have also secured rent for two months at a bigger apartment for the couple for when the babies are discharged from the clinic, Anifowoshe said.

"We're keen on ensuring the family gets ongoing support towards the welfare of the mother and the quadruplets even when they get back to Nigeria," Anifowoshe said. Chairwoman of the Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission Abike Dabiri-Erewa, whose agency has been evacuating citizens stuck abroad, said the country's embassy in Dubai had contacted the family. "The mission is on top of the matter and is in constant touch with the family," Dabiri-Erewa said. The new father says he's anxious to resettle his family back in Nigeria where he believes there will be more family members to help out with caring for the babies.

However, they may have to wait a little longer. Nigeria's airspace remains closed indefinitely to international travel, and authorities have not announced when commercial flights will resume. For now, the family is reveling in the joy of the new arrivals. "I never expected to have quadruplets. It is still a miracle," Abdulkareem said. "And I believe that can happen again to get my family to Nigeria," he added.

Tamar’s boyfriend, David Adefeso, had seen the pilot episode and promo late last week for her new reality show, ‘Get Ya Life!’ … and he was very unhappy. 
We’re told David got angry about the show’s content, and how he was portrayed in it — and his reaction, in turn, made Tamar upset. TMZ broke the story … when David called 911, he took time to explain Tamar had issues with WeTV that came to a head in the hours leading up to him finding her unresponsive in their Ritz Carlton hotel room. 
Our sources say Tamar’s relatives find it strange David was discussing details of her alleged network beef while she was desperately in need of medical attention. We’re told the family believes it’s further proof David was the one who really had issues with the show’s editorial choices. 
Tamar’s family has noticed a change since she started seeing David … according to our sources, who say Tamar’s mood swings tend to align with how David’s feeling. They also say he’s very involved in her business decisions. 
As for David’s portrayal in the pilot, someone who’s seen the episode tells us David, at times, comes off as demanding and controlling. In the episode, we’re told Tamar decides to go on a spiritual healing journey, which includes no sex for 45 days, something that really upsets David. It’s hard to deny that tension is played up in the promo. 
During one scene, Tamar and David are arguing behind a locked door and Tamar yells, “David, stop!” before producers barge into the room.

A source has since told Entertainment Tonight that Kim is 'completely devastated' by Kanye's tweets and that she has been trying to get her husband help for his bipolar disorder but he has refused. 'Kim has always been public about everything in her life, but with Kanye and him being bipolar she has always respected to keep that more private and within the family,' the source said. 'Kanye tweeting about the family and painting her as trying to 'lock him up' has upset Kim because that wasn't her intention and she only ever wants the best for her husband.'
