This is the first time that this copy of the Quran has been taken out of the country after its initial arrival in America.
This copy of the Quran is a translation in English with a prologue written by George Sale. In 1764, the two-volume collection was published in London. Jefferson, who served as president of the United States for two terms from 1801 to 1809, is said to have obtained this copy of the Quran while studying law as a young man.
The Quran, as well as a framed map of Makkah, were transported from the Library of Congress using a custom-made hardwood container with four inches of cushioning and specialized trays, as well as a sensor that detects vibrations and temperature changes.
Thomas Jefferson’s copy of the Quran left the U.S. for the first time from its home at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.
