Police Declare Making Phone Calls At Filling Stations A Criminal Offence

The police have said that making phone calls at filling stations is a criminal offence which could land the offender in jail.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, stated that an offender could be prosecuted and jailed for attempted arson.

He noted that police officers have the authority to arrest anyone found making phone calls or smoking at filling stations.

He described the filling station as a public facility where motorists cannot act as they like on account of the inflammable products like petrol and other petroleum products being dispensed there.

Ex-Governor Adebayo, Keyamo, Arise, Others Get Board Appointments

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday approved the constitution of the Governing Boards of agencies and parastatals, under some ministries.

According to a statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the President also appointed some Nigerians to fill the board positions, including 209 chairmen and 1,258 members.

The statement read, “Mr. President considered the approval for the constitution of the boards as well as the appointments, very necessary, so as to provide a proper governance and oversight structure for government agencies and parastatals.

“The constitution of the boards with the appointments, is a demonstration of this government’s efforts aimed at building strong institutions of governance, and by extension, improving the quality of policy formulation and supervision.


“While these appointments represent a substantial number of hitherto pending board appointments, some more appointments are still being processed and will be released in due course.

“The appointments take immediate effect and honourable ministers are advised to inaugurate the boards after letters of appointment have been issued.”

Prominent among the appointees is a former Ekiti State Governor, Niyi Adebayo, who will be serving on the board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria alongside Akingbesote Akinyeye, Suleiman Mohammed and Bello Babura.

Chief Bode Mustapha and Mr. Festus Keyamo will also be serving on the board of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation alongside Alhaji Garba Buba, Bello Garba, Gen. J.O.J. Okoloagu, Mudashiru Mustapha and Adewole Adeleke.

On the board of Sheda Science and Technology Complex are Senator Ayo Arise, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, Kevin Njideaka, Rotimi Erogbogbo, Bala Abdullahi, Shuaibu Bukkuyum, Mohammed Us, Kolawole Yusuf, Inuwa Mangoron and Gale Idriss.

The General Overseer of Foundation of Truth Ministry, Lagos State, Revd. Yomi Kasali, was appointed on the board of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission alongside Emmanuel Ebomuche, Ezekiel Agazu, Israel Akanji, Anthony Fasipe, Jidda Musa, Yusuf Biniyat and forgiven Amachree.

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and others are on the board of the National Boundary Commission while Gen. John Shagaya and others made the list of the National Institute for Policy and Strategy Studies.

Osinbajo is also chairing the Border Communities Development Agency, the National Planning Commission and the National Space Research and Development Agency

The President himself is chairing the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure and the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority.

Other agencies that have their boards reconstituted are the National Commission for Refugees, Federal Road Safety Commission, National Lottery Trust Fund, National Lottery Regulatory Commission, Federal Institute for Industrial Research, Oshodi and Project Development Institute.

Others are the Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology, Nigerian Institute for Trypanosomiasis Research, National Space Research and Development Agency, National Biotechnology Development Agency, National Board for Technology Incubation,  Raw Materials Research and Development Council, Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute, Nigerian Leather Science Technology, National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion  and Nigeria Airspace Management Agency.

They also include Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria; Nigerian Meteorological Agency; Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority; Nigerian Geological Survey Agency; National Steel Raw Materials Exploration Agency; National Metallurgical Development Centre, Jos; Council of Nigerian Mining Engineers and Geoscientists; National Iron Ore Mining Company, Itakpe; Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun; Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority; Petroleum Equalisation Fund; Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board; and Nigeria Customs Service.

38 investors ‘interested’ in building modular refineries in Niger Delta - FG

The presidency says 38 licensed privately financed greenfield and mini-modular refineries investors have shown interest in the establishment of modular refineries in the Niger Delta.

Laolu Akande, presidential spokesman, said the proposed investment will re-position the petroleum industry and ensure self-sufficiency of petroleum products.

Akande said not less than ten of the 38 interested investors are at an advanced stage of development.

“So far, 10 modular refineries are located in five out of the nine states in the Niger Delta region; namely Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Delta, Edo and Imo states,” the statement read.

“Also, two out of these 10 – Amakpe Refinery meant to be located in Akwa Ibom, and OPAC Refinery to be based in Delta State – have their mini-refineries modules already fabricated, assembled and containerized overseas, ready for shipment to Nigeria for installation.

“The total proposed refining capacities of the 10 licensed refineries stands at 300,000 barrels.”

According to the statement, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo said at an end-of-the-year review meeting of the Niger Delta inter-ministerial committee that the federal government is making efforts to implement development projects in line with its new vision for the region.

Osinbajo was quoted to have said the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration is committed to promoting the establishment of privately financed modular refineries so as to increase local refining capacity, create jobs, ensure peace and stability in the region.

He directed the ministry of petroleum resources to keep providing the necessary support for positive investments in modular refineries by engaging key government agencies.

He also noted the importance of ensuring that the oil communities have a stake in the modular refineries and directed that an appropriate model be developed to achieve that.

Ooni, Brother End Rift

For long, the war between the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi and his brother, Adetunji Ogunwusi, was so intense, it raged like a plot of a royal battle in some Nollywood movie.

But today, the rift is over as the two have sheathed their swords after two years of animosity that gave those close to them cause for concern.

Until the recent development, Adetunji, who is also a top player in the real estate business, allegedly refused to see eye-to-eye with the Ooni, after losing out in the contest for the throne two years ago.

As proof of his displeasure, Adetunji had allegedly shunned several attempts by their father, Ropo Ogunwusi, to resolve the matter.

It took a different dimension when the Ooni honoured another of his sibling, Adegboyega, with the title of Sooko Laekun of Ife (the Sooko of Ile Ife is the head of the princes and princesses of the Kingdom).

This, it was learnt, further infuriated Adetunji, who allegedly vowed never to have anything to do with the Ooni.

Worried by this unsavoury development, top personalities and some elders in the town and across the state began to make efforts to reunite the warring brothers who used to be business partners.

The Ooni also reportedly extended a hand of friendship to his brother in an effort to end the bitter war.

Now, friends and relations have cause to be happy once again, as the two brothers have embraced peace.
