Top Dubai-based YouTuber/Influencer jailed for drug consumption

The Dubai Court has sentenced a famous Dubai-based, 18-year-old YouTuber to six months in jail for Hashish consumption.

On Sunday, the Dubai Court of First Instance heard that the social media influencer was caught, along with other suspects who were later referred to the Court of Misdemeanour, consuming Hashish in his apartment in February last year.  

The influencer has been accused of possession and for growing three marijuana plants in his Business Bay apartment. 

“We found tobacco mixed with hashish weighing 8.29 grams. We found a plastic bag inside the freezer containing about 82 grams of Hashish,” a 32-year-old Emirati police officer involved in the case said to local media Gulf News. 

He also added that, upon investigation, officers found a device used to flower the three marijuana plants. The three plants weighed 405 grams and were 60cm tall, records showed. “He admitted that he had found the seeds and planted them,” said the police officer. Official records suggested that the Anti-Narcotics Department at Dubai Police was informed about the influencer possessing drugs. 

The defendant was arrested along with two male youngsters and one female minor.

The internet went into a frenzy late Tuesday night when a sex tape believed to be that of R&B singer Trey Songz getting sloppy toppy surfaced.

While the man’s face doesn’t appear in the video, one quick tattoo match-up seems to confirm that is indeed Trey’s meat in the video. The voice sounds like Trey too.

Nominations for the Golden Globes for film and television, organized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, were announced on Wednesday.

Nominations for the 78th Annual Golden Globe Awards, celebrating the best in television and film, were announced Wednesday. 

This year's nominees are a mix of old and new, highlighting what we've been watching from home while in quarantine. Netflix led in both television and film nominations, including the drama "Mank," which led with six nods. 

The awards ceremony, hosted by actors Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, will be held on Feb. 28.

UAE woman seeks for divorce because she just wants to be free, stay with her friends & travel widely

The Sharjah Sharia Court has turned down a divorce plea of an Arab woman in her 40s after she filed a divorce case against her husband to whom she has been married for 25 years.

The court has ordered the woman to return “obediently” to her husband’s house and asked her to show respect to her husband and his family. The judge also ordered the husband in his 50s, who used to give his wife Dh25,000 as monthly expense, to bring down the amount to Dh6,000/$1,643. 

As per court records, the case unfolded when the wife approached the court seeking divorce on the ground that she just wanted to be free, stay with her friends and travel widely, The husband’s lawyer said that the husband showed great love for his wife and was taking good care of his family which lived in a villa. 

He was even paying his wife Dh25,000/$6,900 monthly and had bought her a luxury car. But the wife said she wanted freedom and told the judge, “I cannot live with him anymore, and want a divorce.” The husband, in turn, told the court that he loved his wife and did not want to divorce her. He added that she (wife) was used to going out with friends without his knowledge but he did not object to it because he loved her. However, she was showing no respect to him. 

Based on the testimonies, the court rejected the wife’s divorce plea and ordered her to return to her husband’s house.

Dubai issues new COVID-19 preventive protocols effective from today

The government of Dubai announced a new set of precautionary measures that are effective from February 2, 2021.

Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management, headed by Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, these new precautionary measures are aimed at safeguarding the community from COVID-19. 

They are effective from February 2, until the end of the month. During a meeting chaired by Sheikh Mansoor, the Committee noted that the new decisions are part of a constant evaluation of the evolving COVID-19 situation to ensure all precautionary measures are updated and implemented in line with local, regional and international developments. 

The measures seek to further enhance efforts to combat COVID-19, and protect the health and safety of all citizens, residents and visitors.

OKOK

The new precautionary measures apply to:

Seated indoor venues

-Audience capacity of seated indoor venues, including cinemas as well as entertainment and sports venues to be reduced to 50 per cent of maximum capacity; enhanced precautionary measures will be stringently enforced.

Hotels

-Hotel establishments will be required to operate at 70 per cent of total capacity; new bookings should comply with the new capacity limit.

Pools and beaches

-The number of guests allowed inside swimming pools and private beaches in hotels will be limited to 70 per cent of total capacity.

Malls

-Shopping malls will operate at a reduced capacity of 70 per cent.

F&B

-Restaurants and cafes will be required to close by 1am. They will also not be allowed to organise any entertainment activities in their premises.

-Pubs/bars will be closed.

Social distancing measures

-Intensified monitoring and inspection campaigns will be conducted to ensure strict compliance with precautionary measures and safety protocols including physical distancing and wearing of facemasks.

China bans use of mobile phones in classrooms over addiction concerns

China's primary and middle schools have introduced a ban on mobile phone use in classrooms, among wider efforts to protect students from internet and video game addiction, the Ministry of Education announced on Monday.

Primary and middle school students should not bring mobile phones into classrooms, Xinhua news agency quoted a circular issued by the Ministry as saying. If students must have a mobile phone at school, a special request should be submitted to school authorities along with written consent from their guardians, said the Ministry. Once the request has been approved, students should hand in their mobile phones to relevant school authorities upon arrival. The phones will be kept together and should by no means be allowed into classrooms, according to the circular. Further measures will be put in place by schools to better meet students' needs in reaching their parents over the phone while on campus.

The Simpsons writer, Marc Wilmore dies from COVID-19

The Simpsons writer Marc Wilmore has passed away at the age of just 57 after battling COVID-19.

Wilmore's brother, comedian and The Nightly Show host Larry Wilmore, confirmed his death on Twitter on Sunday evening. The TV writer died from COVID-19, plus other health issues he had been suffering from over the past few years. 

'My sweet sweet brother, Marc Edward Wilmore, passed away last night while battling COVID and other conditions that have had him in pain for many years,' Larry said. 'My brother was the kindest, gentlest, funniest, lion of an angel I’ve ever known. I love you little brother,' Larry concluded. 

Marc and Larry were two of five siblings, who grew up in San Bernadino County, California in the 1960s.
